Geisha hand painted Silk

Geisha (or Geiko in Kyoto dialect) are female professional entertainers who perform traditional Japanese arts on banquets.

Girls who want to become a geisha, move into special "maiko houses" at a young age. As an apprentice they are first called Maiko (Kyoto dialect) and have to learn various traditional Japanese arts such as playing instruments, singing, dancing, but also conversation and other social skills. Only a few of the best among them will become Geisha many years later.

Geisha and maiko wear traditional kimono, and their faces are made up very pale. As a normal tourist, you may be able to see a maiko in the streets of some areas of Kyoto if you are lucky.

A beautiful hand painted silk that will inspire any oriental enthusiast.
