Oriental Art

Oriental art pertains to art from the entire far east, although most people think of the more popular styles such as Japanese and Chinese art. About the Geisha

With many of these plates having Geisha art on them, you may want to know a bit about the geisha. The geisha is from Japan, but actually the word originates in China. Geishas were entertainers and sang and danced professionally. In the past they are shown in long flowing robes with hair pulled back and up in ornate buns and wraps. A constant image in Oriental art, the liveliness and beauty of the geisha girl, is more than likely what made her one of the most often used subjects in Oriental art.
