Soapstone Oriental Dragon Statuettes

Oriental dragons could occasionally be capricious and even malevolent, but they were usually benevolent. Unlike the Western dragon, which was a symbol of evil, the Oriental dragon was often a symbol of royalty and good luck. Western dragons were notoriously solitary, while Oriental dragons lived in crowded Chinese-style societies. There was, for example, a hierarchy of dragon bureaucrats. Western dragons were evil misers, while one rarely encountered and Oriental dragon without coming away with a generous gift.
