Crouching
Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Known for making films about familial relationships, director Ang Lee surprised
everyone with his martial arts epic CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON. Based on a
novel by Wang Du Lu, CROUCHING TIGER starts with the revenge plot common in the
wuxia stories that Lee loved as a child, then adds a feminist twist.
Li Mu Bai (Chow Yun Fat) is a legendary martial artist who has decided to pass on his sword, the Green Destiny, to a friend. Soon afterwards, the sword is stolen by a masked female, setting in motion events that test the bonds of family, love, duty, and sisterhood. Chow appears with three generations of female stars: Cheng Pei Pei, a 1960s action heroine; Michelle Yeoh, the beauty queen turned 1980s action goddess; and newcomer Zhang Ziyi, who smolders as the princess who wants more than domestic tranquility.
Famed action choreographer Yuen Wo Ping (THE MATRIX) stages jaw-dropping
zero-G fights across rooftops, rivers, and bamboo trees, while Yo Yo Ma
punctuates the fisticuffs with dramatic cello solos. Described by Lee as
"SENSE AND SENSIBILITY with martial arts," CROUCHING TIGER recalls the
best wuxia films of the 1960s and pushes the genre in new directions.
Zhang
Zi Yi-Jen
Young Jen (Zhang Ziyi), the beautiful and rebellious daughter of a local
official. Jen is engaged to be married, but she clearly has a taste for
adventure.
In one scene, we find Jen Yu (Zhang Ziyi) having run from a prearranged
marriage to seek a life of adventure. She arrives at the tea hall looking for a
fight and as if straight out of a scene from a classic Lau Kar Leung film, she
ends up in essentially a bar room brawl. What proceeds is a series of
introductions from a local group of the usual suspects who seeing her obvious
arrogance, offer a challenge.

Jen had a passionate romantic relationship not long before she met Shu Lien. While Jen was traveling through the desert in a caravan, she encountered the handsome, masculine Lo (Chang Chen), and they quickly fell in love.
. But eventually Jen decided to leave Lo and return home, apparently partly because she knew it would be trouble for him if she stayed and partly because she wished to obey her parents’ wishes.
This statue is beautifully realistic and stands approximately 8" high, 6" wide.
