The  hippopotamus is sometimes equated with the Behemoth of the Old testament. In Eqyptian symbolism it represents the Great Mother, Amenti, the 'bringer-forth of the water'; Taueret, the hippopotamus goddess, signifies bounty and protection.

These sculpture are made from soapstone, each highlighting the various shades of the rocks they were hand carved from. These pieces have a calming effect when water and a small plant is added to the artifact. Each sculpture is hand carved and is it an original. Each sculpture is different. Measures approximately 4.5" x 6.7"
